One Square Mile: Hampden, Baltimore, Maryland
If quirky were a place in Baltimore, it would be Hampden. This community got its start as a home for local factory workers. Fast-forward a couple of hundred years, and now it’s home to wine bars, restaurants, art galleries and cute boutiques. If you visit in June, you’ll catch HonFest, a celebration of Baltimore’s kitschiest and campiest. Bundle up and head out during the Christmas season and you can visit the community’s Miracle on 34th Street — an entire block of blingy, flashy, occasionally Baltimore-centric Christmas decorations.
