Rory McIlroy shows off girlfriend, says, I am very happy

A little over a year ago, Rory McIlroy ended his engagement to Caroline Wozniacki, a nasty little breakup that came after the wedding invitations were in the mail.

The world’s No. 1 golfer has said little about his love life since then, but that ended Sunday when he told the Times of London magazine that he has been dating Erica Stoll, who works for the PGA of America but doesn’t play golf.

“I am very happy in my love life,” McIlroy said. “We haven’t really been putting it out there. She is from America, which is why I like to spend time in Palm Beach…The past six or seven months have been really nice. That part of my life is going great.”

The two, who met in 2012, have been friends for years, McIlroy said. They made the scene Sunday at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open hosted by the Rory Foundation in Newcastle, Northern Ireland. McIlroy missed the cut Friday.

“If everything off the golf course is good,” McIlroy told the Times, “it allows you to be better on it as well.”
